Marianne Winberg, our new president, took us forward to the end with a lot accomplished. To all our sisters who could not be there, we missed you. Hope to see you at our October meeting.

A short business meeting was led by President, Lea Berry and the members all helped plan programs for the year. Betty Vagades was the winner of the antique quilt the club was raffling. The quilt was donated by Elizabeth Simms in honor of her sister, Ruth Long, one of the Charter Members of Davis Special Questers. The proceeds were divided between the Log Cabin Museum and Davis Special School.

Pictured here is Dude, a 2 year old male terrier mix. He is very polite, has a wonderful disposition and now, thanks to the staff and volunteers, is leash trained. Dude was delivered to the shelter about 3 weeks ago and has shown that he is house- trained. When we give him attention, his tail and whole back side of his body wags as he stands there. While some may not agree that animals can show gratefulness for being rescued from a hard life and fending for themselves, it appears that Dude is in fact grateful for the care and affection he’s been receiving at the shelter. He would make a wonderful companion and friend.
The Animal Protection League’s annual cookie sale is fast approaching. It will be held Oct. 1 and 2 starting at 9 a.m. at the Heber Springs State Bank in Fairfield Bay. Don’t miss it! For other info., news or your comments visit www.ffbanimalshelter.org.

Daisy Patch Quilters
At the September we had a wonderful guest speaker, Jan Hoagan from Mountain View, Ark. Jan gave us a great presentation on The Quilt That Walked To Golden, she presented excerpts from the book by Sandra Dallas. The Quilt That Walked To Golden is a story book showcasing the lives and struggles of women who faced the Overland Trail to settle the mining and farm communities of Colorado Territory, and especially the role that quilts and quilting had in helping them survive, adapt, and thrive in difficult conditions. From stories of pioneering mothers who wrapped lost children in quilts as burial shrouds, to sewing and quilting circles that offered pleasant ways to socialize and interrupt the incredible loneliness of remote farms and mining camps. Jan’s presentation reminded us of the struggles of these families faced during their journey, she also did a trunk show of her antique and award winning quilts.
Our upcoming Retreat at Mount Eagle is October 25-27, contact Gail Nelson to sign up and Chrickett Meeks for the meal teams.
Pamela Davis thanks everyone who made the September block challenge a success, everyone who took fabric turned in a block or in some cases more than one. Carol Born won 18 and Pamela Davis won 17 blocks plus more of the focus fabric to make the blocks into a nice size quilts.
At our October meeting Gerry Johnsen will lead the group making a Ruler Bag, specifics will be emailed to members.
Daisy Patch Quilters meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the First Electric Co-Op, Heber Springs, Ark. at 10 a.m. If you would like more information about our group contact Jan Savu 501.723.4205.

You’ve Got Trucks!
Did you know as an owner in the Club you have an arsenal of trucks available for your needs? Almost anything you need removed from your home to a point of disposal in FFB can be handled with just a phone call. Please help us keep your truck fleet working efficiently for you.
GARBAGE TRUCKS – All garbage, even that in garbage cans must be bagged and closed. Garbage must be placed at the roadside for pick up. If animals tear into the bags, it will not all be picked up. Bags should not weigh more than 30 pounds so they can be easily lifted without injury to our staff. Acceptable containers include standard size (not more than 40” high) galvanized or plastic cans with closeable lids. Garbage is limited to six large bags or ten kitchen wastebasket bags per pick up. Only normal household trash will be picked up.
DIAL-A-TRUCK – Disposal of bulky or non normal household items is as easy as a phone call. Appliances, furniture, home repair/remodeling debris can be picked up and hauled away for as little as $15 per load. Some items may incur additional charges and our staff may not enter your home, but can load from your garage or driveway. Call the Utilities Office to determine if they can remove any specific items not listed here. Yard waste (leaves/limbs/grass clippings) may not be removed by garbage trucks or Dial-a-Trucks. FFB does have a compost pile for leaves and grass clippings located across from the Recycling Center. Limbs may be taken to the old quarry, but a key is required and may be accessed by calling Dallas Clark at the Utilities Office. Shingles and wet paint are a unique disposal issue; please call the Utilities Office for details.
LEAF VAC – This service will be available again this year beginning October 15th. The charge for leaf pickup is $20 and must be paid in advance at the Utilities Office. A service date must be established when payment is made and you are responsible for having the leaves raked to the edge of your road frontage by the scheduled date.
The Utilities Office is located at 151 Little Rock Drive, just past the Police Department. Our building backs up to the Hippe Recycling Center. Please call the Utilities Office at 884-6020 with any questions or to schedule appointments to access one of your trucks.
