Obituary: Bettye Jean McBride

August 2, 1941 – July 24, 2010
Bettye J. Wilkinson McBride went to the Lord on July 24th, 2010, and surely there were a multitude of angels anticipating her arrival. Bettye left in Tucson, AZ, a loving daughter, Michele Dalmendray, and in Fairfield Bay a host of dear friends in addition to her husband, Robert, son Reed and sister Doris Wilkinson. A compassionate lady, Bettye was also a dedicated teacher whose organizational skills were on constant display in the Bay. Had she been appropriately compensated for her work, she would have been wealthy, but she chose to accept her wealth in the form of admiration and love from her many friends and her adoring family. A champion golfer in spite of no formal training (two lessons from Charles Ransom doesn’t count), a past president of Zeta Sigma (Beta Sigma Phi sorority), Church Council Chairperson for the FFB United Methodist Church, past president of the Country Club Ridge Townhouse Assn., and many other accolades don’t begin to sum up her accomplishments. She wasn’t president of her church choir, because there was no president. However, titles were not what she lived for. All her efforts were focused on making someone else’s life better and bringing joy to all around her. An outgoing and straightforward personality, you never had to guess what she thought, but she always told you with tact and grace. Cancer did not conquer her. It just ushered her into her next glorious life. Hopefully, St. Peter is looking for someone to redecorate the Pearly Gates, because now it’s going to happen.
A memorial service to celebrate this wonderful life will be Friday, July 30 at 10 am at the FFB United Methodist Church. All are invited. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
