World Day of Prayer (WDP) is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March. The beginnings of World Day of Prayer programs date back to the 19th century. Services begin at sunrise in the Pacific and follow the sun across the globe on the day of celebration. Each year a different country serves as the writer of the World Day of Prayer worship service. World Day of Prayer was founded on the idea that prayer and action are inseparable in the service of God’s kingdom. Women, men and children in more than 170 countries and regions will celebrate World Day of Prayer, Friday, March 2, 2012. The women of Malaysia have written the service around the theme Let Justice Prevail! The women of Malaysia begin with the greeting “peace and welcome” as a reminder that harmony as a people is rooted in peace and welcome. The women name fair and just governance as the basis for peace. They ask us to work with God and with each other to create a world in which each gender, race, culture, religion and state is honored, nurtured and empowered. On March 2, 2012, let us reach out our hands and hearts to touch the lives of sisters and brothers in Malaysia and around the world. This year’s service will be held in Fairfield Bay at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 2 at the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church, 765 Dave Creek Parkway. The service is being sponsored by Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, Peace Lutheran Church, Fairfield Bay Methodist Church, Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
