Charles Douglas, 85, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Ozark Health Medical center in Clinton. He was born September 30, 1924 at Mount Sterling, Kentucky to the late Charles D and Lorena Turpin Douglas.
Charles served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and flew P-51 and B-52 aircraft. He worked as a purchasing agent in Indiana., Michigan and Illinois and moved to Fairfield Bay in 1992. He served as Treasurer of the Shirley Public School Foundation. He organized and ran the “Lucky Ducky” race to raise funds for the foundation that provided the Shirley Schools with computers. He loved playing golf, and working in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth L. Grosbach Douglas of the home; son, Steven Douglas and wife Mairi of Galena, IL; daughter, Leslie Buck and husband, Mike of Crystal Lake, IL. There are three grandchildren: Kristin Romanoski and husband Ryan of Kiel, WI; Ryan Buck and wife, Jamie of Crystal Lake, IL, and Lt. J.G. Andrea Buck, USN., of Washington, DC.: two great grandchildren, Addison and Quinnlyn Buck. He is also survived by a brother, Bill Douglas of Franklin, KY; one sister, Dorothy Douglas of Naples, FL.; two nieces, Janet Bloom and Barbara Snider and nephew, David Douglas.
