Piecemakers meeting for February was a beehive of activity and excitement with nearly 40 members in attendance. With the Quilting Retreat at Mount Eagle coming up next week, Jan Savu and Victoria Banks gave some final instructions and reminders. Susan Moore prepared visuals for the first Challenge of the year, which is to make a quilt top using only half-square triangles. The challenge will be due at the March meeting. Maralou Spear presented the second Block of the Month program featuring Civil War blocks. She gave an historical sketch on women of the Civil War era and how they dealt with the stress of waiting and worrying; then displayed and distributed patterns for the next four Civil War Blocks. Our community service for 2012 is to provide assistance for Dove House in Clinton. Dawn Baker collected donation items for this month; and discussed future needs. She provided a handout of items they need on a regular basis with an assignment to donate household items next month. Rene Riggan discussed upcoming programs for March and April. March will be a wool appliqué class. In April, Jan Hickman will present a trunk show, followed by a Free Motion Quilting class. Sew and Tell is always such a fun part of our meeting as we share our accomplishments and get new ideas for future projects, because we don’t have enough already! Following the Sew and Tell, Judi Talberg presented a fun sit and sew program on “Foldy Stuff.” Those who brought their machines and supplies were able to complete the log cabin block very quickly. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to visit our meetings. The next Piecemakers meeting will be held on March 21, at the 10:00 am at the Methodist Church in Clinton.
